FEATURED WORKS:
WRITING

Writing is the basis of all great communication and has been a major component of my academic and professional career. Below are writing samples from the Diocese of Baton Rouge and Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.

The Diocese of Baton Rouge

At the Diocese, my main responsibility was to manage our social media channels and brand, but there were some special occasions when I had the opportunity to write press releases and Letters to the Faithful.

Historic National Eucharistic Pilgrimage to Stop in Baton Rouge Diocese

As the person tasked with communicating our diocesan efforts for the National Eucharistic Revival, I was responsible for drafting a press release for the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage coming through the diocese on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The press release above was drafted by me and edited by our diocesan media liaison and spokesperson. The event was incredibly successful with over 1,100 attendees. The NEP was also covered on primetime local news and shared on social media.

Bishop Duca Ushers In Second Year of Revival for Parishes

During my time at the diocese, I have had the opportunity to work closely with Bishop Duca and learn his "voice." As the Diocesan Eucharistic Revival Committee prepared for the second year of the Eucharistic Revival efforts to begin, I knew that Bishop Duca should address the faithful on what good had taken place the year prior while also looking ahead at the good to come. My initial draft had very minor edits and was published to our diocesan website, shared on social media and read during Masses across the diocese.

A Reflection on the National Eucharistic Congress

I am responsible for creating and editing our diocesan internal newsletter, The South Acadian. Before leaving the NEC, I knew that my reflection for the monthly newsletter would be about the National Eucharistic Congress and my experience while I was there. I wanted the reflection to be personal but effective, making people who weren't there feel like they were. Many people reached out to me after, including priests, thanking me for my words.

Technical Writing

Throughout my career, I have been given the opportunity to write stories explaining complex topics and ideas to general audiences. By writing these articles, I have experience interviewing experts, researching medical articles and industry reports filled with technical jargon and reformatting the material to make it comprehendible for casual readers.

Medical Physicists: Calculating Cancer Care

I had the opportunity to interview Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center's Chief Quality Officer, Koren Smith, and one of her residents, Addie Barron, on the field of medical physics during the summer of 2019. The goal of the article was to inform target publics, such as patients seeking treatment facilities and potential medical physics residents, about the award-winning program at the Cancer Center.

Feature Writing

One of the reasons I love being a communicator is because of my deep desire to tell other's stories. In writing articles like the one below, I have learned the art of conducting a formal interview and how to write with specific audiences in mind.

Location, Location, Location:

How Access to Specialized Radiation Changed An Appraiser’s Life

During the summer of 2019, I assisted the communications coordinator of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in interviewing Brent Loupe about his battle with a pituitary tumor. During this interview, he described his battle with his diagnosis, how he underwent a Gamma Knife Icon radiation treatment and why he never gave up hope. This article was written to look into the lives of Cancer Center patients, inform the public about Gamma Knife Icon and assist patients undergoing treatment in knowing that they are not alone in their fight.

Event Writing

Events have become the sweet spot of my career. I have experience writing press releases and blogs to both promote and review events of all kinds. In my career, I have written articles on Diocesan events, community health events, foundation fundraisers, hospital anniversaries and architectural lectures/drawing workshops.

Geaux Yoga at LSU to Raise Funds for Local Cancer Patient Care

(Press Release)

Geaux Yoga is an annual fundraising and outreach program created by Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. Both press releases were written to target local media and inform the public about the event and its sponsors. The post-event release also focused on recapping the event and informing target publics of how much money was raised at the event.
